Rhonda Runs...for a Good Cause

Rhonda Brandes is an avid runner with a big heart. She started "jogging" when she was 25 years old and has been running for 39 years! She has run in more than 200 races and 33 marathons.

On April 23, Rhonda will run the London Marathon in memory of her nephew and godson, Zachary Stogenson, and to raise funds for Lutheran Social Service of Illinois (LSSI) and its Behavioral Health programs.

Brandes' nephew passed away in 2015 after an eight-year struggle with drug addiction. She had a very close relationship with him during his 30-year life.

"He was a good looking, smart, and intelligent kid," Brandes said. "The folks at the LSSI Elgin Treatment Center were amazing, and his longest bouts of sobriety came when he was in their care. In memory of Zack, I'm asking for people to pledge/donate money to LSSI in Zack's name. I am dedicating this marathon to Zack and ask you to please consider making a $26.20 donation (or any amount you can) to LSSI to help support the good things they do for people in need."

Philanthropic contributions are important to the programs LSSI provides to 64,000 people across Illinois. We are grateful for the meaningful way that Rhonda is choosing to honor her nephew, Zack, by directing donations to LSSI in his name. We hope that she has a personal best at the London Marathon!
